The action takes place in a certain period of history. The player has one of sixteen nations at his disposal. The 1999 version would look very ugly now, while Age of Empires II HD Edition took all the best, adding a decent picture and more elaborated gameplay in terms of convenience.
Huge changes have been made to the graphic component, this became possible thanks to the use of a modern engine. An online game mode is also available, in which you can fight with real players.
